Larrakia Participation

As at April 2011, BMD Constructions renewed the Larrakia Participation Plan between the BMD Group and the Larrakia Development Corporation. The plan allows BMD to continue building relationships with local indigenous employees and trainees as well as access to the Larrakia Enterprises including Larrakia Development Corporation, Larrakia Environmental Services, Larrakia Turf Farm and Larrakia Homes.

BMD Constructions was the principal contractor undertaking over $47m of civil construction for the development of the Lyons Estate in Darwin - a milestone project for the region, which at its completion in March 2010 saw 700 allotments developed within a master-planned community, for Defence Force housing and for the local community.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding, trainees from the Larrakia joined our workforce at the Lyons Estate, and a range of other private and Government funded projects throughout the Territory.

This arrangement has seen a number of our trainees' flourish, with one in particular, Katon Cronin-Wright, going on to win the CCFNT First Year Trainee/Apprentice of the Year at the 2008 Construction Training Awards.
