BMD Awarded Two Key Infrastructure Projects

BMD is proud to announce two major infrastructure project wins in Darwin and New South Wales.

The $80 million Tiger Brennan Drive Duplication is a major urban arterial road in the eastern suburbs of Darwin, Northern Territory. The section between Woolner Road and Berrimah Road currently comprises a two lane single carriageway with overtaking opportunities. The Department of Infrastructure engaged BMD Constructions to upgrade the road to provide a minimum four lane dual carriageway, with two lanes in both directions and allowances for three lanes in the future.

Current weekday traffic reaches approximately 22,000 vehicles and is expected to grow to approximately 40,000 vehicles in 2030. The project will commence late October and is forecasted to finish in June 2016.

This project will reduce travel times and ease congestion for motorists. For more information on the Tiger Brennan Drive Duplication, visit the Department of Infrastructure’s website here.

BMD Constructions has also been awarded the contract by Roads and Maritime Services to carry out a realignment of the Olympic Highway and replace the existing bridge over the main southern railway line between Sydney and Melbourne at Kapooka.

The existing Kapooka Bridge, built in 1880 and located on the Olympic Highway south of Wagga Wagga, is to be replaced as part of the Bridges for the Bush Program in New South Wales.

Major building work is expected to start in November this year with completion expected in mid-2016. Along with a new three span 99 metre bridge, the scope of works includes a new alignment, intersection improvements, footpaths, bicycle ways, utility adjustment works and improvements to the existing highway.

The proposed upgrade aims to improve road safety along this important stretch of highway to reduce crash risk, reduce travel times and improve interstate freight transport efficiency.

Both of these contracts recognise BMD’s capability to deliver complex infrastructure projects for local communities across the country.
