BMD Constructions Wins QLD Mining Contractors Award

BMD Constructions received an award at the Queensland Mining Contractors Awards Gala Dinner, held in Mackay on Wednesday 23 July 2014.

It was a glittering celebration of the excellence and innovation contractors and suppliers contribute to the resources and mining industry. It was attended by 500 people and honoured the achievements of 16 contractors and suppliers shortlisted for their brilliance, problem-solving, technical innovation and smart thinking.

BMD Constructions won the Time Saving Initiative Award for the Hay Point Expansion – Phase 3: Pre-Reclamation, Quarry and Reclamation Contract. Project Manager, James Smith was presented the award on stage (pictured).

Judge Trevor Davies explained BMD Constructions delivered the project successfully in a challenging physical environment and coped admirably with complex regulations which showed a critical understanding of risk and the importance of excellent project management.

“BMD Constructions had produced engineered solutions to the significant challenges presented by the task,” said Mr Davies.

Jodie Currie, Director of the Bowen Basin Mining Club said the entries confirmed the magnificent efforts contractors make to ensure Queensland’s mining projects are globally competitive and at the cutting edge of productivity.

“I would like to congratulate all the winners and all those who submitted entries and I am sure they will all find the process of entering the awards will bring benefits in terms of future projects,” said Ms Currie.

The awards are a representation of the calibre of contractors and suppliers delivering exceptional work that ultimately make mine sites and projects alike a safer and more productive environment.
