BMD delivers Adelaide’s Anzac Centenary Memorial Walk in time for Anzac Day

BMD Urban has successfully delivered the Anzac Centenary Memorial Garden Walk, bordering Government House in Adelaide in time for Anzac Day commemorations, with the official opening event held last Saturday.

The Memorial Walk is South Australia’s flagship project to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac. The project involved the construction of a new walkway and garden along Kintore Avenue from the South Australian National War Memorial to the Torrens Parade Ground.

The favourable weather conditions over the past month enabled the project team to make substantial progress on the Memorial Walk, delivering the project in time for both the Anzac day commemorations and the Port Adelaide Football Club’s Anzac Day match against Geelong.

A new perimeter fence bordering the eastern boundary of Government House was installed along the length of the Memorial Walk with an open blade design allowing views of the Government House gardens, and formed the backdrop for the opening ceremony.

The Memorial Walk was officially opened by the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency the Hon Hieu Van Le AO, with a number of dignitaries in attendance including the Premier of South Australia, the Hon. Jay Weatherhill MP.

Following the opening, over 10,000 football supporters honoured the Anzac’s along the transformed walkway, on their traditional walk to the football game at Adelaide Oval, paying their respects to serving and fallen South Australians and respected former players who served in battle.

BMD Urban’s National General Manager, David Moody, attended the opening event and said the walk has transformed the memorial.

“BMD is honoured to have been a part of this iconic feature within the city centre. We are proud to have delivered a quality product that honours the Anzac spirit and of course the timely delivery given project constraints is an outstanding achievement for all involved,” Mr. Moody said.

The Memorial Walk seeks to highlight a century of service by Australian defence personnel, to acknowledge the sacrifice of all Australians who have been affected by war.
