BMD Urban achieving significant milestones in Australia’s south

BMD Urban have made a strong start to 2016 with the award of a number of projects in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and South Australia, and reached significant safety milestones in Victoria.

BMD Urban (ACT) have been working on a number of residential land developments North of Canberra including both the Moncrieff and Lawson estates and have recently been awarded the Throsby Access Road upgrade’s second package of works in Gungahlin. This 2.8 kilometre duplication of a major arterial road, follows the successful works undertaken on stage 1 of the project and are representative of our diversified business model connecting Canberra. The team are currently in the final stages of completing Stage 1 which is now 90 per cent complete, before beginning Stage 2 in May.

Last month, BMD Urban (NSW) commenced works on the Brighton Lakes Stage 3 and 4 project for Mirvac Homes in Moorebank, a 196 lot subdivision. The project team have already offered the client an alternate construction methodology which can give the builder earlier access as required to achieve earlier settlements.

Since the start of 2016, our SA team have been awarded four projects and have recently commenced work on the Kings/Bolivar Road intersection in Paralowie as part of the Northern Connector Project early works. The $3.4 million upgrade will realign Bolivar and Kings Roads into a new three legged roundabout in Salisbury. The blackspot, which has a high crash history was given priority to improve the safety of locals, along with improving travel times, boosting freight efficiency and catering for future traffic volumes.

Further south, this month, our Victorian team reached a major safety milestone, achieving 400,000 hours Lost Time Injury Free. This was achieved over the past 15 months while meeting tight project deadlines across 15 projects within a 60 kilometre radius of the Melbourne CBD. With the construction industry’s injury rating one of the highest of any sector, BMD has a strong focus on safety and embodies a culture of looking out for each other with the aim of achieving Zero Harm on every project. This milestone was achieved thanks to the project teams who have been committed to ensuring safety remains top of mind at all times, despite the ongoing pressures of construction works.

Well done to our BMD Urban team for an extremely successful start to 2016, with so many significant safety and construction milestones reached.
