Capestone achieves 250,000 hours Lost Time Injury free

On Friday 30 October, our Capestone project in Mango Hill north of Brisbane celebrated a major project milestone, achieving 250,000 hours Lost Time Injury (LTI) free.

Capestone is illustrative of BMD’s successful vertical integration strategy with developer Urbex engaging BMD Consulting to undertake design, BMD Constructions and BMD Urban to complete civil construction works and JMac Constructions to complete the project’s landscaping requirements.

The project’s preliminary planning and design began in 2003 with construction starting in late 2008. To date the project has reached the following milestones:

• 1,500 drawings
• 1.5 million m³ of earthworks
• 21 kilometres of sewer, storm water and water main works
• 90,000 plants
• 2,000 metres of fencing
• construction of two community parks
• construction of three entry statement structures.

At the safety milestone event, Andrew Brindley, Construction Manager, BMD Urban presented to the team, outlining the project’s upcoming stages of works and reminding the team of BMD’s commitment to safety and our culture of looking out for each other.

David Moody, National General Manager of BMD Urban also attended the event and congratulated the team on their safety achievement.

Paul Bryan from Mates in Construction was on site to accredit Capestone as a Mates in Construction site. Paul commended the project team on the high number of workers who had completed the Mates in Construction general and connector training.

Following the presentation, the project team enjoyed a BBQ lunch prepared by Dave Paton and Peter Barrett.

The project team are now focusing on the next 12 stages of the Capestone project before its completion in 2019.
