Completion of the Robinson Road Open Level Crossing Replacement Project

BMD Constructions, as part of the Geebung Overpass (GO) Alliance, completed the Robinson Road Open Level Crossing Replacement Project in August, three months ahead of schedule.

BMD Constructions partnered with Brisbane City Council and SMEC Australia, to form the GO Alliance in October 2012, to construct the $199 million project which was jointly funded by Council and the Queensland Government.

The early completion of the project was a significant achievement for BMD Constructions and reflects the outstanding progress made on site since major construction began in mid-2013.

The project has continuously met stretch targets including the early opening of the road overpass bridge in March 2014, providing significant safety improvements for the community.

The Geebung site is within a constrained, urban environment featuring industrial, retail and residential stakeholders as well as the Geebung Station.

The project team has overcome significant challenges presented by the proximity of the site to the electrified rail corridor through working collaboratively with Queensland Rail to secure use of full and single track closures.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, together with Premier Campbell Newman and Transport Minister Scott Emerson, officially opened the project on the 9 September 2014.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the completion of these major projects has already seen significant benefits for a number of bus services, eliminating delays up to 15 minutes at both level crossings.

With both overpass bridges now open, the project has achieved its objective of removing a dangerous open level crossing, now permanently closed to all pedestrians, cyclists and road vehicles.

In addition to two new overpass bridges, the project has also delivered a new commuter car park and plaza area on the northern side of Geebung Station, reopened Morrisby Street to Newman Road and undertaken streetscape rehabilitation works in the Geebung retail precinct as part of the project.
