Managing Contractor appointment in NT

BMD Constructions, as Managing Contractor for the $88 million Tiger Brennan Drive Duplication in the Northern Territory, is about to commence road package three in April.

The project will ease congestion and improve safety by duplicating the existing two lanes to a divided, four lane road with the ability to be extended to six lanes in the future.

Tiger Brennan Drive is the first project where BMD Constructions is serving as Managing Contractor. This new capability stems from BMD’s proven track record in delivery, investment in management systems and the effective leadership of personnel.

Project Manager, Natasha Roy said, ‘this is a great new offering for our clients as an alternative relationship contracting model that can be effectively used for the delivery of major infrastructure projects.

‘As Managing Contractor, BMD is responsible for the delivery of work that is undertaken by local subcontractors that we competitively procure. For the Tiger Brennan Drive project we have a massive focus on utilising and upskilling Darwin based subcontractors.’

The project’s Local Industry Participation (LIP) focus sees the tender assessment process for engaging subcontractors as 75% non-cost and 25% cost.

‘This process allows us to assess a subcontractor’s local experience, past performance and capabilities as a priority. BMD has worked with many local subcontractors to upskill and educate them about demonstrating that they meet the

required criteria, providing strategies for safety leadership and delivering on their management plans,’ Mrs Roy said.

The project started construction of the early works package in December 2014 and remains on target for completion in 2016.
