Whyalla Airport Opens to the Public

Whyalla’s new airport was officially opened with a grand opening event on 1 August 2014.

Special attendees included Minsiter for Regional Development Geoff Brock, member for Giles Eddie Hughes and federal member for Grey Rowan Ramsey who unveiled the airport’s commemorative plaque.

The project involved the construction of two new car parks, a full reconstruction of the existing car park as well as partially demolishing and then redeveloping the existing terminal building.

Mr Pollock said the previous terminal had last been upgraded 21 years ago and was far too small and completely inadequate for the increasing demand.

Mr Brock said it was “unbelievable” the project had finished construction in eight months and within its budget.

The Airport is an integral link in connecting Whyalla to the rest of Australia and will only improve the reputation of Whyalla dramatically.
