WORK STARTS AT CAROLINE SPRINGS STATION

Construction of the new Caroline Springs train station has commenced.  Last week Member for Kororoit, Marlene Kairouz, made the official announcement at BMD Construction’s site during the ceremonial sod turning event.

BMD Constructions was recently awarded the contract for the Caroline Springs train station and car park. Construction is anticipated to be completed in early 2016.

The new Caroline Springs train station will improve the public transport options available to Melbourne’s growing western region, providing access to jobs, study and other important services.

The Caroline Springs Station will service the Ballarat rail line, between the existing Deer Park and Rockbank stations. The station is being delivered as part of the $220 million New Stations in Growth Areas project, which has seen new stations constructed at Williams Landing, Cardinia Road and Lynbrook.

BMD Constructions General Manager – Victoria, Mr Jeff Gallus, explained that BMD’s scope includes a single-sided platform with shelter and seating, bus bays and a taxi rank, 350 car parking spaces, drop off zones, closed circuit television (CCTV), pedestrian and bicycle access, secure bike cage, facilities for Protective Services Officers, landscaping, retaining walls, and the installation of new services.

The project also includes the widening of nearby Christies Road to better manage the anticipated traffic volumes as a result of the new station. The project also includes the provision of dedicated right and left hand turning lanes.
