BMD awarded top accolade at Victoria’s Australian Engineering Excellence Awards

Last night, BMD Constructions was proud to receive the top honour at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards held in Melbourne. The Victorian Division Award was presented to BMD Constructions for the Victorian International Container Terminal (VICT) project which was completed five months ahead of schedule, under budget and achieved 1.8 million hours lost time injury free.

BMD Constructions was engaged by client, Victoria International Container Terminal Limited to carry out the infrastructure ‘base build’ construction works at the container terminal under an early contractor involvement agreement. The completed project has reconfigured and redeveloped Webb Dock East at Port of Melbourne, returning it to its original role as an international container handling facility.

The facility is one of the most technologically advanced, environmentally sustainable and safest container terminals in the world, capable of handling at least one million shipping containers per annum.

Through the delivery of the VICT project and BMD’s commitment to relationship-based contracting, BMD built a successful partnership with international client, International Container Terminal Services Incorporated (ICTSI). This led to an opportunity for BMD to take our capability offshore to the Philippines with locally based Prime Metroline Infrastructure Holdings as PrimeBMD.

With operations in the Philippines established in 2017, BMD has been working in the region for 18 months, with our first project located at the Manila International Container Terminal, extending on our internationally recognised works at the Port of Melbourne.

The coveted Australian Engineering Excellence Award contributes to the combined three awards the VICT project has received, having been awarded the Smart Infrastructure Project award at the 2017 National Infrastructure Awards, and a highly commended award at the Civil Contractors Federation Victorian Earth Awards in 2017.

As the Victorian Division Award winner, BMD Constructions will be entered into the national Australian Engineering Excellence Awards which will be held on 18 September as part of the Australian Engineering Conference in Sydney.
