BMD celebrates NAIDOC Week

In support of BMD’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) launch last week, our offices and project sites across the country celebrated NAIDOC Week through Indigenous art, cultural traditions, traditional food, dance and language.

The celebrations were focused around the 2017 national NAIDOC theme ‘our languages matter’, which provided a powerful message to our employees on the importance, resilience and richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.

National Indigenous Program Manager, Dart Johnson said it was an important week in the BMD event calendar and saw all employees come together to engage and support BMD’s reconciliation commitments.

“With 1,700 employees and project teams made up of subcontractors and suppliers, we saw this as an opportunity to celebrate the RAP launch and to develop cultural understanding,” Mr Johnson said.

By celebrating culturally significant events such as NAIDOC Week, BMD takes responsibility for our role in promoting cultural change.
