BMD is changing the shape of the Greater Springfield area

BMD Urban and JMac Constructions (JMac) have reached a major milestone on the Springfield Central Sports Complex project, with the successful completion of the earthworks and stormwater system.

Unlike most open spaces, the constructed stormwater system provides full Q100 immunity to the entire open space and playing fields, resulting in minimal, if any, closures to the fields and courts once complete. This will allow year round use of the sports fields without interruption. To achieve this, in excess of 1 kilometre of reinforced concrete pipes ranging in size from 2400 millimetres to 375 millimetres was installed in addition to several customer chambers with a volume larger than 50,000 litres.

BMD Urban, together with BMD Group’s landscaping company, JMac also successfully completed the remediation of an existing school carpark. The remediation was completed during the school holiday period to avoid disruption to the local school. BMD Urban and JMac worked collaboratively to deliver works on schedule ensuring there was no disruption to the reopening of the school carpark for the new school year.

BMD Urban and JMac were contracted in 2016 to build the community hub which includes two multipurpose sporting fields, each comprising two fully irrigated rugby fields which can also be used as AFL and cricket fields complete with centrally controlled competition level, 35 metre high LED lighting towers, 16 netball courts complete with centrally controlled LED lighting and CCTV coverage of all courts, eight tennis courts and two clubhouses.

BMD Urban successfully completed the civil works for the Springfield Central Sports Complex in January 2018 and have moved on to the next stage of the project. JMac are now well on their way to completing Stage 1 of their package of works, having installed concrete footpaths, ramps and stairs, and sandstone, concrete and masonry retaining walls. JMac will also install a multi-aged playground with custom design play elements, as well as in excess of 20,000m² of new gardens and grassy areas to play. Scheduled to complete Stage 1 in October 2018, the landscape construction experts are in the final stages of negotiation of the 1500m² clubhouse contract with a view to commence construction in the next few months. The double story clubhouses will include a function room, kiosk, kitchen, public amenities, referee quarters, administration offices and change rooms.

The client, Lendlease has acknowledged the project team for their current critical risks document which has been deemed a beneficial tool for health, safety, environmental and quality meetings, ensuring all personnel have a better understanding of the risks onsite, upholding our commitment to Zero Harm. BMD Urban and JMac also won the Category Two Lendlease Rise Award for implementation of effective HSEQ skills and knowledge, consistently communicating and displaying ‘best practice’ compliance and continuously evaluating and analysing job site hazards effectively.
