BMD Constructions win at Earth Awards

BMD Constructions was successful at the New South Wales Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) Earth Awards over the weekend. The Olympic Highway Realignment – Kapooka Bridge Project for client, Roads and Maritime Services took out the prestigious Earth Award for category 5 (project valued between $30 million to $75 million).

The CCF Earth Awards are a prestigious recognition program within the civil infrastructure sector, celebrating excellence in infrastructure and environmental management.

The Olympic Highway Realignment – Kapooka Bridge Project was a vital upgrade to one of regional New South Wales’ most dangerous bends. As principal contractor, BMD Constructions delivered a new road bridge over the main Sydney to Melbourne railway line, 3 kilometres of greenfields highway and a new interchange to the Army Recruit Training Centre within Blamey Barracks for client, Roads and Maritime Services.

With the project located halfway between the largest cities in Australia, being 452 kilometres southwest of Sydney and 456 kilometres northeast of Melbourne, and featuring a tight window for completion, logistics and successful project management were key to the project’s success. BMD Constructions successfully delivered a complicated and challenging project on time, on budget and with outstanding results in quality, environment and safety including over 239,000 hours lost time injury free, as a result of a high performing team.

The realignment was one of the largest road projects in recent history in the Wagga Wagga area, creating jobs and stimulating the local economy. With the realigned highway now open, the project has achieved its objective of improving road safety and freight efficiency, and reducing travel times along this stretch of road which had a history of crashes.
