BMD set to widen traffic blackspot in Melbourne’s northern suburbs

BMD Constructions has been awarded the Yan Yean Road widening project located in Plenty, approximately 30 kilometres north of Melbourne’s CBD.

The project will see BMD widen Yan Yean Road from two to four lanes between Diamond Creek and Kurrak roads in Plenty. The project will also upgrade four intersections at River Avenue, Kurrak Road, Memorial Drive and Diamond Creek Road.

Improving driver visibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists are key priorities during construction and the project will include the construction of a shared user path on the western side of the road, new refuge islands to connect pedestrians with bus stops, and straightening the road to provide better driver visibility.

During the tender phase, BMD developed an innovative design solution to mitigate impacts to significant services located within the project alignment, and reduce impacts to vegetation.

The upgrade, which is anticipated to begin later this year will minimise traffic congestion and improve safety by reducing the risk of head-on collisions and off-road crashes.
