BMD Urban improves connectivity at busy Townsville intersection

BMD Urban has successfully delivered an upgrade to the Mervyn Crossman and William Angliss intersection in Annandale for Townsville City Council, improving traffic flow through the busy arterial route.

The works included an upgrade to existing inadequate drainage to reduce the likelihood of flooding during the wet season, upgrading the existing intersection to a dual lane roundabout, as well as constructing an additional left turn slip lane from William Angliss Drive to Mervyn Crossman Drive. Pedestrian safety was also improved with pedestrian traffic signals provided at the relocated pedestrian crossing which services the local schools and sporting facilities.

The intersection is heavily used for traffic travelling between University Road and the CBD and is the main access point for several schools and the Murray Sporting Complex. BMD Urban worked closely with nearby stakeholders to deliver the project in stages to best alleviate the impact of the works. The project was successfully delivered with zero lost time injuries and no traffic incidents as a result of proactive traffic management, as well as no environmental incidents despite facing over 380 millimetres of rain.

The project builds on BMD’s strong relationship with Townsville City Council, having delivered infrastructure projects in the region for over 22 years. With the busy route having been open for a few months, road users and pedestrians have benefited from eased congestion, improved connectivity and safer road conditions.
