BMD Urban Starts Strong in 2014

BMD Urban has made a strong start to the 2014 calendar year by securing a number of high profile urban development projects throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory.

As the market continues its resurgence in South East Queensland, BMD Urban is working closely with development company Stockland and their engineering teams to ensure their Freshwater, Stoneridge, Augustine Heights and Sovereign Pocket projects are delivered in a timely manner.

BMD Urban is also working with Sekisui House on a new development in the Ripley Valley located west of Brisbane. Also in the Ripley Valley, Amex Corporation’s master planned community project is about to commence, with a $16 million contract to construct a three span bridge, external entry works and the first few stages of the project.

The BMD team also continue a strong relationship with Springfield Land Corporation in the delivery of their magnificent ‘Springfield City Project’ in West Brisbane.

In Regional Queensland, BMD Urban recently secured stages in EDQs ‘The Village Project’; a master planned residential development located three kilometres from Townsville CBD. Upon completion, the site will comprise of 83 hectares with approximately 850 homes planned for the community.

In Darwin, the BMD team will continue into the next stages of the ‘Breezes Muirhead’ project for Defence Housing and Investa Property Group. The company are also delivering residential projects for CIC Australia and Urbex.

BMD’s South Australian business is also starting strongly, with construction in progress on the Whyalla Airport Expansion and the Barossa Valley Hockey Pitch. The Whyalla Airport Expansion will enable the airport to meet the demands of the existing users and accommodate future growth. The project will utilise both our building and civil disciplines and expand our expertise into the aviation sector. The Barossa Valley Hockey Pitch is well underway with fencing under construction and the path to the car park concreted. The Pitch is being prepared for stockpad and turf and the assembly of the light towers.

Further south in Melbourne, BMD Urban won MAB Corporation’s ‘Merrifield Estate’ project at the end of 2013. This estate is a residential and commercial development that will ultimately be spread over 900 hectares, located 35 kilometres north of Melbourne’s CBD.

BMD’s regional Victorian office in Geelong recently secured a $4 million contract to construct a noise wall that is approximately 1.1 kilometres long and ranges in height from two to six metres along a busy section of the Geelong Ring Road.

In Victoria, the Wedge Street Pedestrian Bridge project was announced the winner of the Capital Project Award in the $1 million and over category for the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) 2014 Victorian Excellence Awards. This BMD project was also highly commended for; Excellence in Civil Construction at the 2013 Victorian CCF Earth Awards for Category 2 (projects between $1 million and $5 million). This award recognises BMD’s capability to deliver innovative public infrastructure for local communities.
