Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade Project is One Step Closer

The Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade project is well on its way towards completion with the installation of the three main trusses for the Pedestrian Bridge.

The 137 metre steel girder Pedestrian Bridge will span over the Bruce Highway and newly constructed service roads, allowing a safe passage across the highway from neighbouring suburbs to local schools and facilities.

This is a significant milestone for the multi-million dollar project which has over eighty nine per cent of the construction value invested locally.

Another key highlight was the achievement of over 400,000 hours Lost Time Injury (LTI) free. This milestone has been achieved through teamwork, safety awareness training and maintaining a safety culture.

Major works were completed on schedule earlier in the year, including the construction and opening of five bridges to traffic. All remaining works on this project are on schedule for completion in February 2014.
