Works commence on Boundary Road Interchange across the Bruce Highway

BMD Constructions and the Department of Transport and Main Roads hosted a sod-turn earlier in the month, to mark the start of construction for the six-lane Boundary Road Interchange across the Bruce Highway at Narangba.

Neighbouring federal MP’s Wyatt Roy (Longman) and Luke Howarth (Petrie) announced the federal government’s $80.3 million commitment to the $100.4 million project, with the remaining $20.1 million provided by the state government.

Mr Howarth said Boundary Road congestion, especially around Costco at North Lakes, caused huge commuter delays and frustration.

“There is a lot of congestion being experienced at peak times with so many motorists using the existing two-lane structure to cross, enter or exit the Bruce Highway,” he said.

This vital piece of infrastructure will improve safety, ease congestion and increase capacity in a rapidly growing area.

BMD Constructions Deputy Project Manager, Paul Overell explained the scope of works include a new six-lane bridge over the highway, longer on and off ramps, improved bridge clearance to avoid high loads detouring and a new shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists.

“With more than 160 jobs during the life of the two year project, BMD are proud to support the local community whilst also delivering a portion of much needed infrastructure to the Bruce Highway on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads,” he said.

This is a fantastic win for the BMD team after a competitive tender process and is due for completion by mid-2018, weather permitting.
