Prime Minister marks start of work on Bringelly Road Project

BMD Constructions have been awarded the contract by the Roads and Maritime Services to build stage one of the $509 million Bringelly Road upgrade project in Rossmore, New South Wales.

PRIME Minister Tony Abbott visited the Bringelly Road project last month to mark the start of upgrade work on the site. Mr Abbott was joined by NSW Premier Mike Baird, Roads Minister Duncan Gay and Assistant Infrastructure Minister Jamie Briggs.

Mr Abbott said the upgrade was an imperative piece of infrastructure to support the growth of Western Sydney. “I can’t think of a better way to start 2015 than standing shoulder to shoulder with Mike Baird announcing this very important infrastructure upgrade for the people of western Sydney, for the people of NSW and ultimately Australia because if Sydney is going well, that’s good for everyone,” he said.

In June 2014, the Australian and NSW governments committed $509 million to upgrade Bringelly Road as part of a $3.6 billion package of work to ensure stronger and more prosperous Western Sydney and provide essential infrastructure to support Sydney’s future second airport.

This is the second major road upgrade contract awarded to BMD in the joint funded southern western Sydney growth area.

Bringelly Road is a principal road in the area, linking the South West growth centre and the Western Sydney airport. The project involves upgrading Bringelly Road from a two lane road to a six lane divided road with a centre median.

Craig Smith, BMD’s General Manager for New South Wales, said the project forms a vital part of the Western Sydney Infrastructure plan which will relieve pressure on existing infrastructure and unlock the economic capacity of the region.

“The work BMD is undertaking aims to increase capacity to handle future traffic growth, ease costly congestion and reduce travel times,” he said.

Craig also highlighted that not only will the upgrade improve access to future South West growth centre precincts, but the upgrade will improve safety for all motorists. “RMS and BMD’s works will include implementing traffic lights at major intersections, as well as a centre median to separate opposing traffic flows,” he said.

BMD has a strong relationship with RMS and is currently working on a number of projects, including, Camden Valley Way, Narellan Road, Terrigal Drive, Kapooka Bridge and now Bringelly Road

Work for Bringelly Road Stage 1, between Camden Valley Way, Leppington and King Street is expected to start this month and be completed in 2017.
