Scope

The scope of work included:

  • design, construction and commissioning of five duplex stainless steel chemical storage tanks, and associated electrical and control systems
  • concrete works for the bulk chemical storage bund and chemical unloading bays
  • installation of structural access steel
  • construction of new access/site asphalt roads
  • installation of underground services and spill containment drainage systems
  • installation of 1 kilometre of underground dual contained transfer piping
  • installation of piping and mechanical systems associated with the chemical system including pumps, valves and actuators
  • clearing of 3 acres of trees and shrubs
  • site earthworks
  • design, construction and commissioning of three retaining walls.

Outcomes

BMD applied innovative methods for the installation of the chemical transfer dual pipeline, which was originally designed to be installed in three sections. The project team constructed the entire external pipeline and drew the internal pipeline through both runs in one attempt. This led to significant time and cost savings.

The project team worked collaboratively with the client to ensure there was no environmental incidents and that planting and further development of koala habitats off site allowed for safe relocation of koalas.

With safety a priority, the project was completed with 35,000 hours lost time injury free.
