The Nan Hai Pu Tuo (NHPT) Temple project included the erection of an 18 metre tall, 900 tonne statue, as well as early works packages for roadways, car parking, retreat units and building plateaus, including all associated common services and street lighting.

Scope

The scope of work included:

clearing of roadways and carparks to sub base
excavation of statue plateau and engineered footings
2.3 kilometres of roadway to subgrade
construction of 4800m2 of car parking
preparation works to the building’s plateau
installation of 600 metres of stormwater pipe
construction of 39 stormwater pits and 14 minor headwalls
with gabion basket scour protection
installation of 890 metres of sewer pipe including 38 inspection openings
installation of 1.2 kilometres of common services including cold water, LPG gas, reticulated water and irrigation
installation of 2 kilometres of electrical conduits and wiring
installation of a new main distribution board and three sub boards
installation of 2 kilometres of communication conduits.

Outcomes

BMD Urban delivered the project on time and budget. The project team overcame the difficulties in commencing construction during notorious wet weather periods, with high winds, by effective programming to maintain maximum productivity.

Despite the statue being delivered in 96 separate pieces, it was completed seven weeks ahead of schedule. The statue was officially blessed and displayed to the public on 8 August 2015, with many dignitaries from local and state government attending, as well as Buddhist Monks from around the world officiating proceedings.
