Scope

BMD’s scope of work included:

  • construction of a three-metre-high retaining wall, 500 metres in length
  • construction of a 500-space carpark at Diggers Rest Station
  • construction of five substations throughout the corridor
  • extensions to existing platforms and building works at both Sunbury and Diggers Rest Stations
  • extensions to the existing Sunbury Station carpark
  • installation of 16.5 kilometres of conduit from Watergardens to Sunbury.

Outcomes

BMD Constructions as part of the Alliance upgraded the Sydenham-Sunbury line by installing electrical infrastructure and making other track and support infrastructure improvements between Watergardens and Sunbury.

The project team successfully implemented environmental management to meet best practice and legislative requirements through the management of sediment control, water monitoring and ecology investigations for protected flora and fauna.

Cultural and heritage matters were also protected including culturally significant scarred trees and the sacred meeting places where artefacts were found and protected. Establishing no go zones and educating project personnel during site inductions ensured the area remained protected.

The team executed and managed a robust audit regime to ensure high quality standards, and established rail safety initiatives to identify and control risks and reduce down times.
As a result of the upgrade, Sunbury and Diggers Rest Stations are now Disability Discrimination Act compliant.
