BMD Constructions is delivering the landside civils and buildings package for the Western Sydney International Airport. As part of a joint venture with AeroWest, the contract involves the design and construction of carparks, roads, bridges, utilities connections, operational buildings, and landscaping.
In line with BMD’s commitment to integrate environmental considerations that reduces emissions throughout projects, an environmental management framework has been developed with initiatives to use recycled and sustainable material during construction.
With works on track to be delivered by December 2024, the project will further reinforce BMD’s capabilities in delivering leading infrastructure to the aviation sector.
Scope
The scope of works for the project includes:
- earthworks and drainage
- construction of a 12 kilometre road network
- construction of three bridge structures
- installation of sitewide utilities and services
- construction of airport operations, transport, and maintenance facilities
- installation of state of the art technology and sitewide systems including communications, security, emergency response, management, wayfinding and signage.
Outcomes
- To date the team has invested approximately $10 million in local businesses since commencement of works. This has allowed the project group to capitalise on the benefits of diversity and skills development through measurable targets.
- A traditional Aboriginal learning circle was opened by the project team in recognition of National Reconciliation Week. The launch included students from local schools Plumpton High School and South West Sydney High School to celebrate the launch, partake in cultural experiences, and tour the site.
- An environmental management framework has been developed with initiatives to use recycled and sustainable materials during construction to reduce emissions.
