Recognition for rail safety expertise

BMD Constructions’ expansion into Western Australia has seen the team recognised for their vast experience in the delivery of road and rail infrastructure with BMD’s appointment to the Third Avenue bridge replacement project.

The existing Third Avenue Bridge in Mount Lawley is 105 years old and required replacing in order to improve safety and efficiency of the local road and rail network.

BMD Constructions Western Australia Manager, Mick Slocombe, said “During a rail shutdown on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, BMD Constructions successfully demolished and removed the existing structure without incident and within program. BMD Constructions brings a wealth of experience in the safe delivery of rail infrastructure in urban environments and with live rail interface”.

The project scope includes:

• a 20-metre bridge which can cater for a higher load capacity
• a second lane on the bridge eastbound, to separate traffic turning left and right on to Whatley Crescent and improve traffic flow at peak periods
• realignment of the cycle and pedestrian path through a 30-metre underpass under the new Third Avenue Bridge
• a new footpath across the bridge, linking Railway Parade and Whatley Crescent.
