Robinson Road Overpass Bridge Opens to Public

The Robinson Road Open Level Crossing Replacement Project has recently achieved a major milestone with the opening of the road overpass bridge to traffic on Monday 24 March 2014.

BMD Constructions has partnered with Brisbane City Council and SMEC Australia, forming the Geebung Overpass (GO) Alliance, to construct this $199 million project which is funded jointly by Council and the Queensland Government.

With the opening of the road overpass bridge to traffic, Robinson Road East and Robinson Road West are now connected for the first time across the North Coast Rail Line at Geebung.

Elected representatives including Brisbane’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Graham Quirk announced the opening of the road overpass bridge on Wednesday 12 March when they had the first drive-over the new structure.

The road overpass bridge has been opened ahead of schedule, reflecting the outstanding progress made since major construction began in mid-2013. The project remains on track to be completed in late 2014.

The early opening has allowed the open level crossing to close permanently to traffic, significantly improving safety as well as reducing congestion and travel times through this key arterial corridor.

With the road overpass bridge open to traffic, work now continues on other major components of this complex project, including the construction of the pedestrian overpass bridge, Queensland Rail car park and plaza area and the Morrisby Street connection to Newman Road, Geebung.
