Urbex recognised for excellence at the UDIA Awards in the Top End

Urbex and the Land Development Corporation’s Zuccoli development in Palmerston successfully took home the master planned development award for excellence at the seventh annual Urban Development Institute of Australia Gala Awards (UDIA NT), last Friday.

The awards seek to recognise outstanding achievements of high quality developments and celebrate the Top End’s contemporary knowledge, skills and innovation in the urban development industry. The category was highly contested with the development up against Breezes at Muirhead, Aspire at Palmerston and Mitchell Creek Green at Palmerston.

Zuccoli is a master planned development delivering a superior community lifestyle inclusive of a shopping village, open space and recreational nodes, and quality housing. Focused on amenity and affordability, its design acknowledges Darwin’s tropical climate while offering house and land solutions tailored to suit both first time and subsequent home owners.

Judges commented, “The planning of Zuccoli has taken advantage of the topography thus maximising aspects for the residential, commercial and recreational areas. The park adjacent to the commercial area is of particular relevance in that regard, and is well planned, designed and built. In master planning Zuccoli the developer has managed the relationship with the Land Development Corporation well, creating a very good public/private partnership for the benefit of the ultimate urban form.”

The Zuccoli development utilises the full array of integrated development delivery capabilities of the BMD Group with multiple BMD businesses collaborating in terms of construction, development and landscaping to deliver the project as one single unit. Congratulations to the Urbex, BMD Urban, Empower Engineers & Project Managers and JMac Constructions team for continuing to set new benchmarks in urban design and community creation with this award for excellence.

The project will now continue onto the National Awards for Excellence to be held April 2017.
