VICT project wins coveted Infrastructure Partnerships Australia award

BMD Constructions together with client, Victoria International Container Terminal Limited and designer, AECOM was awarded the Smart Infrastructure Project award at the 2017 National Infrastructure Awards held in Sydney in early April.

The award recognises the successful delivery of the world’s most automated international container terminal five months ahead of schedule, on budget and with 1.8 million man hours lost time injury free.

The Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) project was recognised for its use of various smart technologies including the installation of an automated lashing platform, the integration of automated application interfaces between the vehicle booking system, the terminal in and out gates, the movement of automatic container carriers and stacking cranes, and the primary operating systems, as well as Australian first technology including remote control ship-to-shore crane desks and a bright light management system using light emitting plasma technology.

Innovation during construction including various ground improvement strategies, a ballasted track rail system and the adoption of concrete container plinths to support container stacks were also recognised through the award.

The VICT project symbolises what can be achieved when successful collaboration occurs and BMD Constructions is proud to have partnered with industry leaders Victoria International Container Terminal Limited and AECOM to deliver this key infrastructure project.

The Smart Infrastructure Award illustrates BMD’s ability to deliver innovative solutions in challenging construction conditions.
