Minister inspects progress at South Australia’s Anzac walk

BMD Urban (SA) hosted South Australia’s Veterans’ Affairs Minister, the Hon. Martin Hamilton-Smith MP, and Port Chairman David Koch, at the Anzac Memorial Garden Walk site in Adelaide last Friday where they inspected the construction progress.

The project involves the construction of a new walkway and garden along Kintore Avenue from the South Australian National War Memorial to the Torrens Parade Ground and is jointly funded by the Government of South Australia, the Commonwealth Government through the Anzac Public Fund, and the Adelaide City Council. It is one of the largest projects to be funded under the Commonwealth Government’s Anzac Public Fund scheme.

Minister Hamilton-Smith and Mr. Koch were provided a site tour that incorporated a briefing about the movement of the Government House eastern boundary wall, west by 10 metres, to allow for the Memorial Walk’s construction and interpretive wall, with an open-blade fence interspersed by local black granite blocks featuring images commemorating a century of military service.

Mr. Hamilton-Smith said when complete, the project would honour the fallen with the walkway designed around three pillars of symbolism: remembrance, service and loyalty.

“This iconic city centre feature will pay tribute to our Australian servicemen and women and honour the Anzac spirit,” he said.

Adam Cusenza, BMD Urban Project Manager, said the team were privileged to be involved in a project of such historical significance.

“This quality piece of infrastructure will be a place of reflection and provide a constant reminder of the service and sacrifice of those who’ve fought in conflicts for our country,” he said.

The project is due to be completed before the 2016 Anzac Day commemorations.
