BMD Community Assistance Program
The BMD Community Assistance Program provides one-off support payments, up to a value of $5,000 each, for local community groups and organisations that deliver benefits through initiatives, programs or events within the communities in which BMD operates, all throughout Australia.
We work in partnership with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations who embody our values to achieve long lasting impacts to communities and are proud to have committed a total of $100,000 to our 2023 Community Assistance Program.

Application periods
Applications to the BMD Community Assistance Program will open twice a year with two notification and payment periods:

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply and receive sponsorship/funding from BMD, your application must meet the following criteria:
- provide services or manage sustainable community initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing and development of the communities in which BMD operates (that is every State and Territory in Australia – we welcome applicants from all communities)
- be one of the following types of organisations:
- community trust
- incorporated community association
- not-for-profit
- social enterprise
- charity
- Public Benevolent Institution
- school.
- BMD will not support:
- for profit organisations, including businesses
- government departments (excluding schools)
- political activities
- individuals seeking support for personal projects
- religious activities or events
- overseas travel for study purposes
- organisational operating costs
- companies or requests that bring BMD into repute.

Conditions
- Applications must be submitted online using the BMD Community Assistance Program application form.
- BMD reserves the right to decline proposals that do and don’t meet the detailed criteria, and to terminate agreements if they fail to meet the agreed commitments.
- Successful applicants will be notified by email and requested to complete a Sponsorship Agreement.
- Successful applicants must complete an Acquittal Report within 60 days of the sponsorship completion date included on the Sponsorship Agreement template.
Failure to comply with terms and conditions:
BMD reserves the right to terminate the Sponsorship Agreement or seek repayment of any funding if:
- the recipient fails to meet the obligations outlined in the terms and conditions
- it believes that the applicant has spent funding on items not associated with its original application and allocated purpose or has otherwise misappropriated the funds
- the application has not completed the Acquittal Report. Failure to return an Acquittal Report will result in applicants being ineligible for sponsorship in subsequent years until a completed Acquittal Report is provided.
Promotion
Successful applicants must agree for the organisation and its spokespeople to participate in targeted promotional activities including media, social media, videography and photography for use by BMD at their discretion.
Supporting attachments
Where required, supporting documentation helps us to assess your application and can be used to demonstrate that your project has broad community support or is identified as a key priority by stakeholders.
They might include:
- project quotes or plans
- letters of support
- photos or newspapers cuttings from previous activities (if available)
- business or development plans, feasibility studies, masterplans, community plans, etc.
- constitution, articles of association or memorandum.
