Gender Equality

BMD recognises the importance of gender equality in the construction industry and believes in the value that different perspectives can add to our business.

We are passionate about ensuring we are an inclusive employer that empowers our people and recognises the positive impacts that differences can have on our business, including productivity and innovation.

BMD is constantly evolving to provide flexibility and benefits that make BMD a great place to work and in 2018 BMD launched our Paid Parental Leave Policy as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. The policy provides support to employees with growing families and enables greater workforce participation while assisting in the attraction and retention of women at BMD.

The policy includes:

  • Paid Parental Leave for primary carers (not including government-funded parental leave) – 18 weeks at full salary or 36 weeks at half salary maternity leave (allowing for up to 52 weeks leave in total including unpaid leave)
  • Paid Parental Leave at full salary for secondary carer – one week, recognising the important role that secondary carers provide to families.

We understand the importance of family life outside of work and the role BMD plays in facilitating flexibility in employment to achieve the optimum balance between work and personal responsibilities.

The inclusion of women in the engineering and construction industry remains a key focus for our business and it is pleasing to see the results of this emphasis through an increase in the number of female graduates and undergraduates employed.
