Bendigo Airport Upgrade – Stage 2 officially opened

The Bendigo Airport Upgrade – Stage 2 project was successful opened for operation on 26 May 2017.

The $15 million project, which involved construction of a new runway, two high strength taxiways and apron areas, and one low strength taxiway, surpassed the expectations of client, City of Greater Bendigo with the project team developing an innovative stabilisation solution. This allowed for the construction of an additional taxiway, minimising disruptions to large aircraft.

The upgrade project has been touted as a significant upgrade to Bendigo’s aviation industry, with the project providing local businesses and producers quicker access to international trade markets. The new runway has also helped to secure and expand local emergency services for the region.

While the runway itself was opened in February this year, Friday 26 May marked completion and opening of the entire upgrade project, including the taxiways and apron areas.

The Bendigo Airport Upgrade – Stage 2 project, which has been nominated in the 2017 Civil Contractor Federation Victoria Branch Earth Awards, has helped to cement BMD as a key player in the aviation construction industry.

BMD Constructions is proud to have helped improve infrastructure for the growing Bendigo region.
