BMD celebrates women in construction at NAWIC Excellence Awards

Last week, BMD Constructions Environmental Manager, Rachael Lee was recognised at the 2017 Victorian Chapter National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Excellence Awards.

As a not-for-profit organisation, NAWIC champions and empowers women in the construction and related industries to reach their full potential.

Rachael was awarded a commendation award for the Environmental Sustainability category which encourages environmental or socially sustainable practices within the construction industry. The award was assessed on innovative practices, and the use of new technologies and their impact on the workforce, community and the environment.

Rachael was awarded the commendation based on her work as part of the Victoria International Container Terminal project which was managed under one of the most stringent environmental regimes in Melbourne.

“During the project my team and I faced various challenges which we managed through an integrated team approach and innovative solutions to ensure the container terminal was delivered with best-for-project environmental solutions,” Rachael said.

“The annual NAWIC awards are a great opportunity for talented women to come together and be recognised for the outstanding achievements they make to the construction industry.

“I am honoured to have been recognised by NAWIC and look forward to continuing my employment with BMD as I further my technical knowledge and demonstrate how rewarding a career in environment can be for women,” she said.

BMD recognises the importance of gender equality in the construction industry and is proud of the contribution our female employees make to BMD and the construction industry as a whole.
