BMD continues to deliver in the renewable energy sector

BMD Constructions, in joint venture with Consolidated Power Projects Australia Pty Ltd, has been awarded a contract by Global Power Generation Australia for the Crookwell 2 Wind Farm development, located 35 kilometres north of Goulburn in New South Wales.

Upon completion in September 2018, the project will generate 91 megawatts of renewable electricity for Canberra producing around 320 GWh per year for Canberra homes from the 28 turbines contributing to the ACT’s 100% renewable energy target.

The development is being delivered under a Balance of Plant (BoP) contract comprising the design and construction of approximately 23 kilometres of gravel access tracks including drainage, 28 concrete foundations for the wind turbines and construction of crane platforms and hardstands. The design and construction of electrical scope is being completed by Consolidated Power Projects Australia Pty Ltd and includes substation, equipment and buildings.

The project team commenced onsite last month and are completing preparation works including topsoil stripping and installation of cattle grids at fence locations to ensure minimised impact on nearby landowners’ farm operations. In line with BMD’s commitment to the communities in which we work, the project team are working closely with local farmers to ensure they are able to continue to maintain farm operations in the land surrounding the turbines.

BMD Constructions capability in delivering renewable energy projects is continuing to grow, with recent projects including the Lakeland Solar and Storage project in Far North Queensland and the Daly River project in the Top End, both being delivered for global downstream solar company Conergy.
