BMD partners with Clontarf Foundation for Victorian first work experience initiative

As part of a Victorian first initiative, BMD was proud to host a student from the Bairnsdale Clontarf Academy for a week of work experience during June.

The inaugural Partner Work Experience Week program saw year 11 Clontarf student, Kirby travel to Melbourne where he undertook a homestay with BMD employees and carried out five days of work experience with BMD’s urban development business.

The week-long initiative provided Kirby with valuable insight into what it would be like to live and work for a large company in Melbourne. The program also builds students’ capacity to make the future transition from school to work more attainable and broadens their understanding of potential employment prospects.

Richie Ward, Southern Regional Manager, BMD Urban said BMD was thrilled to be involved in the Victorian first initiative.

“As a long-term supporter of the Clontarf Foundation, we jumped at the chance to provide a Clontarf student with a real-life work experience opportunity,” Richie said.

Ben Power, Area Manager, BMD Urban hosted Kirby for most of the week and said it was a great opportunity to learn more about the fantastic outcomes achieved by the Clontarf Foundation.

“Not only was it a great experience for Kirby, but it also allowed my family and I to contribute to the advancement of his employment prospects and skills,” Ben said.

The Clontarf Foundation works to improve education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal men. BMD has proudly partnered with the foundation since 2015.
