BMD takes out 6 CCF QLD Excellence Awards

As BMD celebrates 40 years of operation, it is clear our future success remains underpinned by the development of our people. At the Civil Contractors Federation Queensland Excellence Awards, held last Friday, BMD was proud to support our 12 finalists across the Industry Training and People Awards, as well as two of our projects in the Earth Awards.

BMD was awarded top honours on the night across all three categories, taking home Employer of the Year in the Training Awards, Construction Industry Person of the Year in the People Awards, and winning the largest project award of the night (project valued $30 million to $75 million) for the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cattle and Frances Creeks.

Congratulations to all our winners:

  • BMD Constructions’ Labourer, Shaun won Certificate III Trainee of the Year – Pipe for his determination, relationship with site teams and subcontractors, and his unwavering commitment to risk management and operational health and safety.

  • BMD Constructions’ General Foreman, Rod won Diploma Student of the Year for his commitment to self-improvement and upskilling in order to better serve his crews, project team and the wider BMD business.

  • BMD was awarded Outstanding Commitment to Training and Skill Development – Employer for the fourth time in the last six years, and for the second year in a row. Over the past 12 months in Queensland, BMD has upskilled 22 members of our workforce through the completion of formal qualifications in civil works, pipe works, road infrastructure and bridge works with Civil Train Queensland.

  • BMD Urban’s General Foreman, Adam won Site Supervisor of the Year for his commitment to achieving best for project outcomes, and his unwavering support of his project teams. Throughout his nearly two decades with BMD, Adam has consistently delivered projects on time, ahead of schedule, and to high quality, safety and environmental standards. This marks the second year in a row BMD Urban has taken out the win in this category.

  • BMD Constructions’ Operations Manager – Queensland and Northern Territory, Rob won the major category in the People Awards, Construction Industry Person of the Year, for his ability to bring out the best in his teams and consistently deliver world class infrastructure. His empowering approach to leadership fosters hard-working, high-functioning team environments with team members who take responsibility and create innovative and effective solutions to challenges. This is the second year in a row that a member of BMD Constructions’ leadership team has been acknowledged with this award, with Chief Estimator – Northern Region Dannii, taking home the win last year.

  • Excellence in Civil Construction Earth Award (project valued $30 million to $75 million) was awarded to BMD Constructions’ Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cattle and Frances Creeks project. The project delivered the reconstruction of 5.8 kilometres of the Bruce Highway south of Ingham. An already technically complex project involving managing works within an active floodplain and within two key sensitive environments, was further complicated with the impact of three major flood events which closed access to the site for nine days. BMD delivered a high-quality finish, an exemplary safety performance, enhanced habitat for the endangered Mahogany Glider, and provided a more comprehensive afflux modelling of the existing section of the Bruce Highway.
