Building a sustainable future for women in construction

BMD is building connections and showcasing possibilities for women in the construction industry through our partnership with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

Our team at the Western Treatment Plant (WTP) 5 West project welcomed a group of NAWIC members to site, providing a glimpse behind the new Nutrient Removal Plant (NRP) located in Cocoroc, Victoria.

The tour showcased the innovative design aspects of the project, including the latest technology, environmental and sustainability initiatives, and safety solutions which have been implemented throughout the construction phase. The tour experienced up-close viewings of key project infrastructure including the Blower, electrical buildings and the first tank installed within the NRP.

Delivering the new NRP for Melbourne Water, BMD Constructions will replace the 55E Activated Sludge Plant, which will set the WTP up to better cope for future growth. This includes improving safety for operations and maintenance crews, with the upgrade eliminating the need to maintain equipment by diving and working over water. In addition, the new plant will use an innovative treatment process, requiring less power and carbon which enables more biogas to be produced and converted into energy.

As proud hosts of the event, BMD provided the opportunity for women in the industry to expand their technical knowledge in the water and wastewater sector while engaging with likeminded professionals.
