Experience delivers significant milestones in North Queensland

At the end of January, our North Queensland Constructions team completed the Dalrymple Road Bridge project at the Bohle River in Townsville, two months ahead of schedule, under budget and to a remarkable standard.

The project involved constructing two bridges to replace the low level concrete crossing over the Bohle River which becomes inundated with water during Townsville’s monsoonal wet season.

Exceptional milestones were achieved throughout the duration including 110,000 man hours lost time injury free which can be attributed to BMD’s commitment to the continuous improvement of our systems and safety standards.

During the project, 410 people were inducted onsite and created 70 full-time jobs for Townsville locals. The long-term relationships built with Townsville suppliers and subcontractors enabled the team to achieve the best possible outcomes for the client, as well as aiding in the development of the local industry.

As part of the Queensland construction industry’s 10 per cent training policy, the required hours for the project to achieve compliance was 4,423 hours. From an early stage of the project, the management team were committed to the training and upskilling of staff. The project not only met the required hours, it achieved 194% compliance with 8,620 total training hours recorded.

With the bridges now open, the project has not only achieved its objective of delivering vital flood-mitigation infrastructure that will withstand environmental impacts for the next 100 years, but it has far exceeded local community engagement and training goals, furthering BMD’s commitment to our local presence in Townsville.
