Flowing onto stage two of Townsville’s Haughton Pipeline Project

BMD Constructions together with DJ MacCormick Contractors has been awarded the Haughton Pipeline Project Stage 2 for repeat client, Townsville City Council. It follows our work on Stage 1 of the project in 2018-19, bringing extensive knowledge and experience to the second stage of the pipeline installation works.

The Haughton Pipeline will help deliver a reliable water supply for industry and residential growth for the Townsville region. Stage 1 of the project saw approximately 36 kilometres of the pipeline constructed between the Haughton River and the Ross River Dam. Stage 2 will add approximately 28 kilometres of pipeline extending to the Burdekin River.

Jointly funded by Townsville City Council and the Queensland Government, the investment for Stage 2 is $274 million, with $195 million of this contributed by the Queensland Government.

BMD Constructions General Manager Northern Region, Gerard Keynes, said BMD’s experience across significant infrastructure projects and within the water sector means it is well placed to deliver the Haughton Pipeline Stage 2.

“The awarding of this contract demonstrates our long and collaborative relationship with Townsville City Council and its confidence in BMD’s capability, particularly after our successful delivery on Stage 1.”

“We have proudly worked in Townsville for almost 30 years and see this as a remarkable opportunity for our experienced team to continue working with our established supply chain to provide work for local contractors and suppliers.”

Work on Stage 2 of the project is expected to commence in mid-2023 (weather and project conditions permitting) with commissioning scheduled for mid-2025.
