Our People: Life in the Top End – Meet Greg Langlois

In 2023, BMD Senior Project Manager, Greg Langlois saw an opportunity to work for BMD in a different region, leading a new team and sharing his vast experience and knowledge. Together with his family, he made the move from Brisbane to the Top End and hasn’t looked back since!

What made you want to relocate to the NT?

I saw the opportunity to professionally develop and grow in a new role. I also really love the outdoors and camping, and the NT has so many possibilities for me and my family to experience this with endless sites to explore. Darwin has easy access to Kakadu, Katherine and northern Australia, that’s generally hard for people to get to. It’s a great opportunity to grow in a leading role while spending time with my family to experience this great country.

What do you enjoy doing after work?

The main difference with working and living up in the NT is I get to do so much more after work hours and on the weekend thanks to more daylight and the awesome weather!

It’s easy access to Litchfield National Park which has amazing water holes and walks, there is amazing fishing all year around and you can attempt to catch the million-dollar barra (even though I can’t fish properly). I go to the Mindil Markets every Thursday night and there is always something on each weekend during the dry season. Classic example, I went and saw the Beer Can Regatta the other weekend where locals made boats made of beer cans and raced up and down Mindil Beach. Being in the northern part of Australia, it’s also possible for a quick and cheap weekend trip to Bali!

What do you love most about working and living in the NT?

The team here is amazing, everyone has such a laid-back attitude and love working at BMD. The weather is also a massive bonus and I love knowing that each day it won’t get cooler than 20 degrees at night and 30 degrees during the day. I have yet to experience the NT wet season, but I look forward to seeing what that has to bring!

What do you love about working at BMD?

I like working at BMD because of the people, our family values and the opportunities the business provides employees. There are a wide range of projects you can be involved with up here varying from infrastructure to Defence, residential land development and utilities. It provides a broad capability and opportunity to become a master in the work that you do.

Why would you recommend people relocate to the NT with BMD?

The professional development opportunities are endless! The warm weather is great for the mind and soul and you’ll have the opportunity to live and work in one of the most unique locations across the country or even the world.

Is the NT calling your name? BMD is recruiting for a variety of roles for projects across the Defence, land development and water and wastewater sectors. Get in touch with us if you’re interested in where a career with BMD in the Top End could take you. Read more here
