RMS awards BMD the Schofields Road upgrade – Stage 3

Roads and Maritime Services has awarded the construction contract for the $140M Schofields Road Stage 3 project to BMD Constructions.

The project scope includes a 2.5 kilometre upgrade to extend Schofields road to four lanes from Veron Road, across Eastern Creek to Richmond Road, with the capacity to widen to six lanes in the future.

The project will also feature 600 metres of new twin bridges across Eastern Creek and Bells Creek, the installation of new traffic lights at Carnarvon Road and at a future Fermoy Road extension intersection.

Pedestrians, cyclists and commuters will also benefit with off road shared paths to be built on both sides of the road to increase safety, and bus bays and bus priority lanes at major intersections to improve traffic flow.

BMD Constructions General Manager NSW and ACT, Craig Smith said, “BMD Constructions’ extensive experience in road construction continues to provide certainty to RMS about our ability to deliver a quality product within program while also ensuring construction impacts for the community and road users are reduced or eliminated.”

When extended to Richmond Road, Schofields Road will provide a major east-west connection between Windsor Road and Richmond Road. The project will ensure the future transport needs of the North West Growth Centre are met, linking the Rouse Hill and Marsden Park town centres.

BMD Constructions’ appointment to the Schofields Road project sees the company working across the Sydney region with projects underway in both the North West and South West Growth Centres, at the Sydney Airport as well as in the Central Coast and Hunter Valley.

Work on Schofields Road stage three is expected to start shortly and be completed in mid-2018, weather permitting.
