Third Avenue Bridge takes out CCF WA Earth Award
BMD Constructions was acknowledged for construction excellence at the Civil Contractors Federation Western Australia Earth Awards over the weekend with the Third Avenue Bridge Replacement project for client Main Roads Western Australia, taking out the category 3 award (project valued $5 million to $10 million).
BMD Constructions delivered a safer and more efficient bridge in Maylands, Mount Lawley, 10 minutes outside of Perth’s CBD after just eight months of construction of the Third Avenue Bridge.
The original timber bridge was constructed in the 1920’s and despite ongoing maintenance and strengthening works, was approaching the end of its design life. The bridge was replaced with a new concrete bridge that has a single span of approximately 22 metres and includes a second lane.
With train services every five minutes, at peak times, the works were completed behind a general exemption fence and works within the rail corridor were successfully completed during rail shutdowns without impact to rail operations.
BMD Constructions successfully delivered the project on time and within budget and recordable injury free, with positive feedback from the local community.
Congratulations to the project team on this outstanding achievement. The project will now progress to the CCF National Earth Awards to be held later this year.
