Tunnel Breaks Through at the Wiggins Island GC07 Project

The Wiggins Island GC07 project recently celebrated a major milestone, with the breakthrough of the ‘Jacked Box’ tunnel on 23 August 2013.

The breakthrough marks the culmination of more than 18 months of planning, temporary works and jacking, and the team have excavated a total of 2,000 cubic metres of dirt from the tunnel under a live rail service.

The Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET) project is located at Golding Point and will form part of the existing Port of Gladstone. The scope of work includes the construction of a series of tunnels that will ultimately house a Coal Conveyor and link the Rail Dump station to the Coal stockyards.
