The contract with BMD comprised heavy piled foundations for crane beams, underground services and extensive concrete and asphalt pavement that has been constructed to withstand the heavy loads from our straddle carriers. The work has been undertaken in a tight time frame and in the very congested confines of our second largest container terminal. BMD staff have been entirely professional in all aspects of the contract and have delivered a very high standard of workmanship. I would particularly like to mention the cooperative approach which has exhibited throughout. This approach has contributed significantly to make this project such a success.
Scope
The scope of works included:
- flexible asphalt and rigid concrete pavements
- rail mounted gantry crane structures
- major electrical substations and a fire pump house
- supply and installation of high voltage, low voltage and data conduits
- six 40 metre high mast light towers
- various watermains, a sewer pump station and associated works.
Outcomes
BMD refined our skills over the length of the project, working closely with the client’s operations team to coordinate works ensuring that construction progressed without impeding on the facility’s operations. BMD initiated weekly coordination meetings between Patrick Terminal’s senior management, as well as daily interactions, to ensure no unforeseen impacts were experienced.
